Pulsation is a body oriented approach to personal growth which works with the body and life energy system, to support individuals to their potential for awareness, pleasure and joy in living.

"Pulsation" has evolved from two streams. First in the pioneering work of Wilhelm Reich an Austrian scientist and psychoanalyst. The second stream, the vision of Osho, a contemporary mystic whose life and teaching have influenced millions of people of every age and way of life.

Osho's vision is on the basis that both the inner and the outer world are to be totally embraced, lived and loved. What needs to be renounced is not the world, but all that the world has conditioned into us in the way of attitudes and belief systems, rather that we live without any belief and through our own experience come into contact with our true nature. For this prescription is: Meditation. Osho devised revolutionary new ways for the modern, overstressed mind to find peace and silence. One of his insights is that Active meditation - in particular Dynamic and Kundalini meditations - provide the easiest way of moving from activity to relaxation.


Pulsation is breathing and bodywork that is rooted in the deep emotional release process of the work of Wilhelm Reich, M.D. Reich discovered relations between emotional functioning and the bodys energetic processes. These discoveries anticipated the holistic movements understanding of the mind/body relationship. They also helped to source many of todays contemporary body-oriented psychotherapies and personal growth disciplines including Pulsation. Reich's work on the relationship between emotional stagnation and degenerative disease was ahead of its time. At the root of emotional stagnation is what Reich called muscular armor. Muscular armor is chronic muscular tension that blocks the natural flow of life force through the body that is experienced as emotions. The restriction of the life force can result not only in emotional stagnation, but also in physical disease.

Reich developed techniques to loosen muscular armor thereby helping people to allow and experience blocked emotions and the freeing of the body's natural emotional expressiveness. Long-held feelings then could flow through the body and be transformed, leaving the person to feel more alive and better able to establish contact with self and others.

We are born as wild, free-feeling and spontaneously expressive beings but in the process of growing up, the conditioning by our parents, society and religions force us to repress this natural aliveness.
We learn not to cry and not to be angry in order to be good and in this process of repressing our f spontaneous feelings when we are young is that we become emotionally dishonest and cut off from our real feelings - or better yet, not to even have any. We grow up fearful, guilty, angry, and depressed, twisting ourselves out of shape to fit into someone else's ideas of who we should be. But trying to fit into other peoples molds creates tension. Who wants to be forced into a fixed shape against their will? As a result we become sick, both physically and psychologically.

But what exactly is repression?
Repression requires us to renounce what is vibrant inside of us, and to become dull both energetically and emotionally.

Many of us have an inkling of it, but few of us have a grasp of how it relates to our own lives. Our breathing becomes shallow. We swallow our tears, we hold back our anger, we even suppress joy and laughter. We force our unexpressed feelings into the unconscious where they remain buried alive, stuck, held and blocked in the body.

Repressions manifest as rigid character attitudes.
Such as a man who becomes extremely anxious if he does not live his routine life by the clock; or the woman in spite of her longing to share love with someone, rejects men out of an old unconscious fear of her own father's rejection of her.

But they also manifest as muscular tension in the body.
When we learn not to show our feelings, they usually go into our bodies.

We tense the muscles in our neck instead of frowning, we hold our breath instead of crying, or we clench our jaw instead of yelling. When these patterns are repeated, emotional suppression becomes a habit, the unconscious mind takes over.

 Individual Pulsation Sessions

Individual sessions are the principal method of doing Pulsation Neo-Reichian work. Each session is different, for the persons unique needs determine the direction, pace and content of a session. In an introductory session you are introduced to breathing and bio-energetic exercises and postures, to help mobilize a lot of stuck energy held inside. This opens the body to a more profound energy flow.
The first step in this growth work is exploring with breathing and bodywork the muscular armoring . A person can release blocks in the body and the energy field, blocks which prevent us from feeling positive feelings, pleasure and happiness.
With deep breathing, the armoring intensifies and the therapists direct manual work on the muscles themselves, combined with the clients uninhibited sounds and body movements, releases old tensions and blocked emotions.

Pulsation Classes, Groups
The experience of working in a group is very different from working in a private individual session, and that very difference can significantly be beneficial. In a group, people often discover that their feelings are not unusual; that they are not odd for having their feelings. Often they find out that other group-members are working with the same or similar issues. The special vulnerability of working in a group can contribute to important breakthroughs in personal growth. It is empowering, proving to people that they have the capacity to care, to give, to share. Pulsation Workshops
